Regression Therapy |
|
Hypnotic regression is a way to discover your past! Many people don’t necessarily want to review times they feel are best forgotten, but it can be very helpful to do so on occasion. We can often do it by consciously remembering what happened years ago, but often our attempt to recall meaningful moments in our personal history lacks detail and clarity. We wish it was possible recapture a clear memory of our personal story as fully as possible. Dreaming Dreaming is one way the mind presents memories to us, but dreams are muddled, and are so easily forgotten or misunderstood that most people don’t find them very helpful. Few people keep a detailed diary these days. That can be a wonderful way in which our own writing recalls events, but most diaries are too subjective and too incomplete to be truly helpful. Although regression into our past with hypnosis doesn’t always provide the kind of answer we expect, recall can be very precise in the information handed to us by our subconscious mind. Marie’s Regression Why should anyone want to peel back the layers of their mind and go back? At times our curiosity is the reason, but usually it is because we want to go back to discover something that has been troubling us. Let me give you a typical, but imaginary, example:
Benefits Regression therapy may have helped Marie, but it is not a cure-all. Sometimes what we may discover in our past does not help very much. Sometimes we try to go back but find that our mind blocks all recall of the traumatic incident, like a bad car crash, that we were seeking to remember. But, as a whole, clients who use regression therapy as a means of resolving deep-set problems can be greatly helped through hypnotism. In fact, knowledge of our past may give us a genuine grasp of our present situation for the very first time. It may show us why we have developed a way of reacting to events that my be based on a misunderstanding of who we really are. It may also give us a chance to say “I forgive you” in our heart to a person, living or dead, who made life tough for us, and also to forgive ourselves for foolish mistakes we made in the past that have haunted us for years. Regress...how far? Do we really remember what happened? That seems likely when we go back in our present lifetime, even back into our mother’s womb when we were a tiny baby. More difficult for anyone to assess are the reports that about 3,000,000 clients now have made of experiencing their past lives, many of which seemed very real to them. Apart from religious concerns voiced by a few clients, we have an important issue. The mind, though often revealing the truth, quite frequently hallucinates. Are past-life regressions true or made up, or perhaps a mixture of both? Hypnotists who specialize in past-life regression usually keep their options open. We feel that the experience of a past life always belongs to our client, so who are we to judge whether it was true or just a hallucination? Spontaneous Regression Sometimes spontaneous regression to a past life happens unexpectedly, as with Dr. Brian Weiss’s famous patient Catherine. Her experience turned this leading psychiatrist into one of the world’s experts on past-life regression. (Dr. Weiss has written four books on the subject, starting with "Many Lives, Many Masters," Simon & Schuster 1988.) Whether past-life regression is spontaneous or has been deliberately sought by the client, it can bring the same kind of healing information. Clients report learning about several lives in times past over many centuries. More controversial, but frequently reported, are accounts of time spent in a spiritual home between earthly lives. Most of those people who tell of such experiences in hypnosis bring back a wonderfully reduced fear of death and dying that lasts them a lifetime. * Chicago certified master hypnotist Peter Watson Jenkins, is a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, working with clients wishing to benefit from regression therapy in his Elk Grove Village office.
