A Hypnosis Session |
|
When you first go to a professional hypnotist’s clinic it may seem familiar. Rather like going to see a doctor or counselor, you will need to book an appointment well in advance, because many hypnotists are quite busy seeing clients. On the first session you’ll be asked to describe the problems you want to fix. Your hypnotist will take detailed notes about you and will explain fully how hypnotism can help in your situation and what it’s like to experience the enjoyable relaxation of being in hypnosis. Then you may be tested to ensure you are one of the 95% of people who can be hypnotized. If it doesn’t feel right to go ahead, tell the hypnotist and you can leave straightway. We suggest that when you book your first appointment you should ask to have this introduction time free of charge. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You allow yourself to be guided by a professional into a state of relaxation that’s quite like day-dreaming. Sometimes you are taken into a deeper relaxation in order to help your mind focus on events that took place in your life a while ago. Always you can agree to go on, or to stop. Always you have the power to snap out of your day-dream, just as surely as drivers react to a sudden emergency on the road they are traveling. Mostly it's not possible to resolve your issues in one session. That’s because new clients need to experience hypnosis first before they are emotionally ready. They may not go deep enough at the first try to make therapy possible. We all have to learn how much we are in charge when going into hypnosis. Sitting in the chair, listening to the hypnotist (often with a pulse or soft music in the background), you may be surprised how pleasant it all is. You will hear everything, and your senses are very sharp. Perhaps there may be a feeling of heaviness or lightness, or a little tingling in your eyelids and hands. You may even doubt that you have been hypnotized at all! But most people find hypnosis to be wonderfully relaxing and, really, a most enjoyable therapy. When they come back to the alert state, they usually say how refreshing it has been for them. Modern clinical hypnosis has a powerful purpose. When a hypnotist asks you questions in advance, it is to find out what ideas may be used to help you and what is the exact nature of the problem you need to resolve. Suppose you have come for therapy because you find it very difficult to speak in public, even to small groups of your co-workers. The treatment you will be given includes a new set of positive ideas and feelings that can be registered by your subconscious mind to give you new personal strength and desire to meet your goals. Clinical hypnosis is designed to drive out the negative emotions you may have and replace them with appropriate positive ideas.
All clients receive a free half hour introduction to hypnotism. Chicago hypnotist Peter Watson Jenkins works in Chicago and Elk Grove Village. Email: Chicagohypnotist@yahoo.com
