FAQs

 (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q:  Will I be asleep?

No, true sleep may stop the mind from receiving helpful suggestions. In special situations, such as dental anesthesia, you will become quite drowsy.

Q:  Can I be made to tell any secrets?

No, you will always be aware of that request and you will refuse. If you are

asked to say or do anything against your principles you simply will not comply!

Q: If I can hear everything, how will I know I’ve been hypnotized?

Good question! The first time, your hypnotist will probably give you a simple test to prove to you that you have been in hypnosis. After that, you’ll remember.

Q: Can I tell how deeply hypnotized I have become?

That is difficult. Hypnotists have ways of judging; you just need to get used

to the “feel” of being in hypnosis. Then you may be able to judge for yourself.

Q: Will I be able to move?

In hypnosis you can move, scratch an itch, and talk when asked.  It is not good to open your eyes, unless asked to do so, because it may bring you out of hypnosis.

Q: Can I go to sleep and never wake up again?

Absolutely not! All hypnosis is self-hypnosis—you’re never in someone’s power. You’re always in charge. (We wake up tired people who nod off!)

Q: Can I hypnotize myself at home?

Yes.  Often your hypnotist will want to teach you simple ways for you to

hypnotize yourself and support the therapy you have received in the clinic.

Q:  Can hypnosis be paid for by medical insurance?

Rarely can this be arranged. Hypnotism is a government-recognized therapy

but it is not a medical procedure. Usually medical insurance will not apply.

Q: I’m still a bit uneasy!  Is there nothing to be feared?

Hypnosis may seem unusual because it involves making changes.  You may alter  your personal lifestyle to improve yourself.  That’s good, something that your conscious mind readily takes in its stride.  But your subconscious doesn’t see things that way: it resists change.  That is why a professional hypnotist can help by persuading your subconscious mind to recognize that the changes you desire are really beneficial.  Together we teach your mind to accept your new lifestyle.

Q: Is there a list of issues that hypnotists usually cover?

The following is not a complete list- it includes some duplications and several items  only covered by medically qualified therapists and by specialist hypnotherapists.
